Lessons from Indonesia’s Experiences In Disaster Reconstruction and Preparedness

About the Conference

The Multi Donor Fund for Aceh and Nias (MDF) and the Java Reconstruction Fund (JRF) closed on December 31, 2012. Lessons learned and experiences from the implementation of MDF and JRF projects strengthened programs at all levels of government and improved capacity for response to and preparedness for future disasters. Both programs have become valuable sources of information for other post-disaster reconstruction and recovery programs, nationally and internationally.

The Secretariat organized: (i) closing events for both the MDF and the JRF to recognize the programs’ achievements; and (ii) products such as photo book, video documentary, and working paper series to share lessons learned from the extensive experience from these very successful programs that can be of use to other practitioners and policy makers.

One of the closing events was a one-day International Conference, entitled Lessons from the Indonesia’s Experiences in Disaster Reconstruction and Preparednes, held in Jakarta on November 12, 2012.It's objectives were to:
  1. Share MDF and JRF lessons and knowledge from the Indonesian post-disaster experiences;
  2. Foster substantive interactions amongst various actors from Indonesia and around the world to distill lessons that could be adapted and replicated in other settings; and
  3. Explore how these lessons can be operationalized in post disaster and other fragile situations.

Proceedings of the conference will be posted after it is published.
